Being Confident
November 8, 2009
Have you ever wondered,
perhaps even for a second if God just might be into watching sports? After all in some team events they have a
coach and of course the coach gives the team a good old fashion pep talk. So let us for a few moments listen in to our Coach.
Gentleman I present to you your lifetime coach Jesus. And He has a few words
for you so gather around and listens to what HE has to say;
#1 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: “ Philippians 1: 6
And as you
continue standing around the Coach you hear these words as well;
#2 “Fight the good fight of
faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast
professed a good profession before many witnesses I give thee
charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus,
who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That
thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of
our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1st Timothy 6:
12-14
Now we know
that any good coach is going to give you pep talk like none other. Even if the
odds are against you. Kind of like the coach of the Detroit Lions if you will.
He will give those guys a talk of their life. Not just before the game but even
at half time. And if you’re not careful and your losing really bad he might
yell so loud you may think you’re at a rock concert.
Now you may be
thinking this is all a little silly. When in reality in this lays the truth.
Each and every day we, as professing Christians have to put up a fight of our
lives. Furthermore, this fight takes a toll on those who are behind prison
bars. The very thought that the enemy puts into our brains that no one loves us
or no one cares is a very real thought that is entertained. When those words
are planted into brain the process of losing hope begins to fade. And believe
me when you are in any institution the very thing you don’t want to lose is
your hope.
Listen again
to what our Lord is saying;
#2 “Fight
the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also
called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses I give thee
charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus,
who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this
commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus
Christ.” 1st Timothy 6: 12-14
Does this
sound like a Coach who wants you to lose? Of course not! It is coming from one
who wants each and every one to be a winner and not a whiner
Now as we
continue to listen in we hear these words
#3 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his
might. Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be
able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against
flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers
of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God
that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on
the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the
preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall
be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take
the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” Ephesians 6: 10-18
Now do those
words sound like they are coming from a losing team? Of course not! That’s the
point in this all. Those of you who are professing Christians are winners not
losers! And during these holidays you
will need to put up the biggest fight of your Christian walk. See I know those
words of the enemy what they are. He will tell you that no one cares, no one loves
you and when Thanksgiving Day and Christmas arrives at it is past visiting
hours and you had no view Satan will even up the ante a little. This is when you need to be fighting the good
fight of faith and if possible get with your fellow brother in the Lord and get
into the Word or prayer. But the main thing is that you fight the good fight of
faith!
Allow me to
relate to you this true story that transpired in Jackson;
A
fellow went to prison to do a long stretch. I heard tell it was like ten to
thirty years. Everything was well for a season. Then one day another inmate
told him he was never getting out. At first he did not believe this. But after
a while and continually hearing this he believed it. At that point when he lost
all hope of a better tomorrow he man went insane. At first they kept him in his
little eight by ten cell. But as time went on he quit eating, bathing and he
just let himself go. So bad was this inmate they had to transfer him to a
mental hospital.
When
it was finally time for his family to take him home they couldn’t In fact he did not even realize who his family was.
Thus they had to leave him in the hospital. Thus, a man who had a chance at
life was robbed of all hope just because of a little disbelief.
Don’t lose
your hope for a better day because there is hope and most importantly because
you know the KING of kings and LORD of lords you are a winner.
