Ahhhh the joys of having a minisrty that you know wants to help others. But what if your ministry it to help those who are in prison. Is it still all joy? Lets examin this issue .
Jeus Himself said in book of Matthew chapter twenty-five
"35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave the drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me."
Thats right Jesus Himself called those in prison "the least of these." But why would He do such? The answer is rather simple; those who are behind prison walls are often the most nelected by any type of society you may want to think of. Yet why is this? You see many in society think and or believe that all those who are in prison are "monsters." Just like when little boys thought girls had cooties.
But here is a truth that can not be ignored, those men and women behind prison walls are as human as you , your neihbor and your neighbors neighbor. Furhtermore every person who is on this here planet called earth could very well find themself in jail or prison. What has kept many from prison is this fact, they have not been caught. Thus, those behind prsion walls need to be treated with the same respect and dignity that you yourself would want.
So why is there ministries such as Thunderdome? The answer is easy; there are some Christians who believe that every man and women deserves a second chance in life. However, having a ministry of this sort is very lonely task as the followers are far and few between, as is even the funds to keep a ministry going.
So why don't more people give to prison ministries? I think the answer is multi-fold so let us see if we can list the issues:
- People still think of prisons as "monsters" as if s/he were some sort of Franenstein or Dracula. This concept may very well be in the hearts and minds of those who profess to be Christians.
- There is no physcal profit. People like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and so forth put money into projects where they can see results such as more money to line their pockets. Putting funding into the life of a "monster" may not yeild the results desired. Thus, the funding for a prison ministry falls way short.
Did you know that many who do get relieased from prison often got back to the same community they came from.Often when they do they also return to thevery thin that got them in prison in the first place.
- Many who are released do not get time to adjust to a different form of society. Thus feeling the presure to get a jovb, find housing and so forth becomes to much. Thus there is a chance for one to return to their prison settings.
Thunderdome Ministries Network Inc. wants to change this by giving Christians coming out of prison a second chance and here is how:
Build a campus where a Christian coming out of prison could live and work while adjusting back to every day society. Such campus would entail the following;
- Actual 5-6 bedroom homes, not dorms where one could live and begin the adjustment process.
- Build the following on campus: 500 seat chapel, bible and bookstore that would be open to the public, a cyber cafe also open to the public and the only Christian bowling alley and of course serveral classrooms where one could continue their Christian education. All of wich they could work as if they were part of society for a period of 90-120 days
